About the Two Fly and Event Details

The Two Fly Fly Fishing Tournament was created to promote corporate philanthropy for Wyoming charities. Former Governor Dave Freudenthal made it a priority to encourage companies making money in Wyoming to spend a larger portion of their charitable budget to benefit Wyoming causes. The Two Fly is not a professional contest; while competition is a component, the objectives are to enjoy a truly remarkable fishery, interact informally with peers in the oil and gas industry, and raise money for deserving Wyoming charities. Since it’s inception in 2005, the Two Fly Foundation has awarded over $3.2 million to 28 unique charities. See a full list of the organizations we’ve supported, and apply to be a future recipient!

While fly fishing skills make scoring easier, the scoring system is designed to allow the novice to successfully compete with the bamboo heads. In fact, strategy may be equally as important as fly fishing skill to the winners, and enjoying the sport of fly fishing with old and new friends is the ultimate reward.

The Event

Each year, the Two Fly tournament is held the Thursday and Friday before Mother’s Day in Casper, Wyoming. An ice breaker will be held Wednesday evening to distribute rules and boat assignments. After the first day of fishing on Thursday, you will be treated to an evening barbecue on the river. The Tournament concludes with an Awards Banquet on Friday evening to include dinner, drinks and an auction of fine art and drift boats.

The Fishermen

The Two Fly Tournament will consist of two-man teams from the oil and gas industry. Team members will not fish together and will fish different stretches of the North Platte River on two different days. Participants must fish with two flies of their own choosing for the entire day; however, different flies may be chosen for day two. A monetary contribution will be assessed for additional fly changes. Three nights lodging, meals, boats, guides, and extras are included in the entry fee. Details of the tournament’s rules can be found here.

The Prizes

Members of the top three teams will receive premier fly rods and reels and the fisherman bringing in the largest fish will receive an original “Two Fly” bronze by artist, J. Burnham Rudolph. All participants will receive hats, shirts and other fishing gear as well as being eligible for various prizes.
